Don't have a Social Security number? No worries! Don't have a Social Security number? No worries!

California has expanded access to the California Earned Income Tax Credit (CalEITC) and Young Child Tax Credit (YCTC) starting from the 2020 fiscal year. This extension includes taxpayers with an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN), including undocumented workers. Now, those with an ITIN can qualify for both the CalEITC and YCTC credits.

The amount of your refundable tax credit depends on your income and the size of your family. The total of your refundable tax credit is determined by your income and the number of people in your family.

  • If you claim the CalEITC, you may qualify to receive up to $285.
  • If you have children or dependents, you can get more. If you have one child, you can receive up to $1,900. Larger families may qualify for more.
  • If your child has a Social Security number, you may also qualify for more through the Federal Child Tax Credit.

Note: Fiscal credits, such as CalEITC and EITC, are not considered public benefits under the public charge rule of the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services.
